Look Back Tuesday (The Fiction)

The Fiction #3 (BOOM!) is hitting the shelves tomorrow so we are going to look back at where we left off last month in regards to this crazy adventure in a unknown world. (Click here for a list of what’s coming out tomorrow.  We split the list into two groups: new single issues and new HC, TP, and Reprints.)TheFiction_Issue3

This story follows four friends: Tsang, Tyler, Max and Kassie.  As children, they found a magic book which would transport them to a land filled with adventure and strange characters.  Everything was fun and lighthearted, until one day when Tsang ends up disappearing.  The remaining three children look for him to no avail.  Kassie brings up the point that they need to figure out how they are going to deal with this situation in the real world.  They all agree the best policy is to say nothing.  They stone wall the police and keep their mouths shut for fear that they would never be allowed back into the other place again.

Shortly thereafter, Max leaves town.  Max’s dad has been drinking a lot and talking crazy, so Max’s mom felt it was best to get away. Fast forward a few decades and Tyler, Max, and Kassie are off living normal lives.  Tsang’s disappearance had been blamed on his father, who everyone felt was a “total tool.”  After a while, the remaining three learn to accept the fact that there was no mystical book that sent them to a fantasy world.  Instead, it was just a made up story to help them cope with the fact that their friend was gone.

TheFiction_Issue1Then one night, as Tyler is locking up the house, the mysterious book appears out of nowhere.  It opens up and Tyler is gone.  Kassie learns about Tyler’s disappearance and discovers the book in his house.  She searches out Max, whom she hasn’t talked to in years.  She tells him what has happened and they decide to go back and return to the world they left a lifetime ago.  However, this time, when they arrive, the world looks as if it has been fractured.  They see faded images of their younger selves running around and one of them, which looks like Tyler, says he can help them find their friend. TheFiction_Issue2

Kassie and Max are led to a cave that they remember from their childhood visits to this place.  Inside we see Tyler who is imprisoned among a series of spikes.  His prisoner, a demonic beast, shows his face to be that of Tsang’s.  The demonic Tsang senses people outside the cave and storms out to confront Max and Kassie.

The end of issue #2 leaves us with a flashback of Max’s parents on a camping trip with a group of friends.  It appears that within the group is Tsang’s parents as well.  Out of nowhere a portal appears.  Max’s father and Tsang’s father decide to enter the portal and they appear to end up in the same fantasy world that Max, Tyler, Tsang and Kassie have experienced. Upon entering, they are greeted by a golden creature.

Next week promises that “Kassie, Max and Tyler are held captive by the Corruption in the Fiction.  What do you think we will discover?  Is the demon really Tsang?  What did the father’s learn when they visited the world years ago?  Why is the world now broken? Only one more day before we hopefully find out some of the answers to these questions.

About OxenTrot

During the day, I am a mild mannered desk jockey who helps to manage a large IT company.  At night, I am a family man, who is insanely in love with his wife and a proud daddy to an amazing girl.  But in the pre-dawn hours, as most everyone else is still asleep, I am my alter ego.  During that time, I am: OxenTrot. Ox was a call sign bestowed upon me while I was an active duty United States Marine, mainly in tribute to the fact that I was a major gym rat. After 5 years and three tours of duty, I reentered the civilian world.  My call sign was replaced by my actual name but the Ox still lived inside. As I began to adapt to my new life, I also began to take on new adventures, such as starting a family, getting a “big boy” job and taking on endurance sports.
