Friday’s Week in Review (Geeky Crafts, New Spidey, Batman Blunder and #LoveWins)

Happenings around OxenTrot

This Week

Week three on this amazing adventure to Geekdom and we were lucky enough to see some amazing things.  We reviewed Kevin Smith’ classic movie Clerks in our Monday Cinema Club, looked into chapters 10 – 13 of Brave New World for Bookworm Tuesday, spent Anything Can Happen Wednesday rocking out to the Muppets and dedicated Throwback Thursday to the 1980s and the amazing games of the Commodore 64.

Happening on the intertubes

DIY Geeky Style

I just found this site and !’m in love.  It is called Our Nerd Home and is “written and edited by the two of us. We’re a couple of geeks who like making stuff.” I was initially looking for cool Star Wars décor.  I am thinking about making my office at work obnoxiously geeky and wanted an idea of what I could dig up from the internet.  That’s when I found their post about making geeky dishes (click the pic to go to the post.)

I am totally one of those people who would love to make their decorations and birthday gifts for people and even furniture.  However lack of time and serious lack of artistic talent prevents me from ever doing such things.  I still keep the hope alive though.  Every time I go into a hobby and crafts store I imagine all of the cool stuff I could make, only if…

But scouring Our Nerd Home really makes me want to shut up and just do it.  Their crafts are so cool.  They also give great reviews of subscription boxes and other geek crafts they find online.

Okay, I am off to repurpose an out of date globe into a Death Star.  Genius.

New Spidey

Spider-Man image thanks to

This is the week that the big news about Spider-Man came out finally.

Marvel announced that “…Tom Holland will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man film, in theaters in IMAX and 3D on July 28, 2017.”  (Read more here.)

There was a lot of discussion on the web about whether they should have gone with a Miles Morales Spidey instead of another Peter Parker web slinger.  In the end, everyone seems to agree that they are just happy that this means that Spidey will be part of the great Marvel Universe and we should expect to see him in upcoming Marvel movies.

BatgameBatman Arkham Knight Blunder

The highly anticipated fourth installment to the Batman game series.  While forums, twitch channels and YouTube were abuzz with 24 hour game play, a legion of fans were left in the dark.  It turns out that the PC version of the game was littered with bugs and glitches.  Things got so bad that Warner Brothers pulled the game and halted all PC sales, even offering refunds to unhappy customers.  You can see their official statement here.

Finally, a bookmark.  While not geeky or nerdy, I wanted to ensure I captured the actions of the Supreme Court Justice today as they announce the right for all people to get married.  This is a huge victory for many friends and I am extremely happy for them today.

Next Week:

Remember to join us next week as we review Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog for Monday Cinema Club and finish our review of Brave New World with Chapters 14 through the end on Bookworm Tuesday.

About OxenTrot

During the day, I am a mild mannered desk jockey who helps to manage a large IT company.  At night, I am a family man, who is insanely in love with his wife and a proud daddy to an amazing girl.  But in the pre-dawn hours, as most everyone else is still asleep, I am my alter ego.  During that time, I am: OxenTrot. Ox was a call sign bestowed upon me while I was an active duty United States Marine, mainly in tribute to the fact that I was a major gym rat. After 5 years and three tours of duty, I reentered the civilian world.  My call sign was replaced by my actual name but the Ox still lived inside. As I began to adapt to my new life, I also began to take on new adventures, such as starting a family, getting a “big boy” job and taking on endurance sports.
