Throwback Thursday – Commodore 64 games (Impossible Mission)

This week on Throwback Thursday, I go into my memory banks and we return to my childhood home and pull up the old folding chair to our Commodore 64 sitting in the corner of our dinning room.  I spent hours everyday playing games on that computer.  Today, I will look back of some of my favorites.

“Oh we have a visitor.  Stay a while.  STAY FOREVER!”

MISSION: You must penetrate Elvin’s underground stronghold and stop him. To succeed you will have evade the scientist’s robot guards, break his security code and find his control center. Your predecessors, agents 4116 and 4124 (may they rest in peace), were able to send back some information about Elvin’s installation.

Your only weapons will be your keen analytical mind and your M1A9366b pocket computer. Good luck. The world is depending on you.

In all of my life I had no clue how to beat this game. I knew to search furniture for puzzle pieces but could not figure out what they meant or what they did.  Jumping over robots, trying to determine what the musical board needed me to do, and trying to get the elevators lined up correctly.  I spent so much time playing this game and deep down knowing that I would never win.  Yet, 30 years later, I just sat down and watched a 30 minute YouTube video which shows me how it should have been done.  I must admit, I feel my life is a little more complete now.

Keep checking back throughout the day (or follow our blog and you will get notified of updates) as I post more games from my youth, such as Blue Max and M.U.L.E.

As always, don’t forget to have some fun and check out other topics on this blog, such as Monday Cinema ClubBookworm Tuesday, Anything Can Happen Wednesday and Friday’s Week in Review.

About OxenTrot

During the day, I am a mild mannered desk jockey who helps to manage a large IT company.  At night, I am a family man, who is insanely in love with his wife and a proud daddy to an amazing girl.  But in the pre-dawn hours, as most everyone else is still asleep, I am my alter ego.  During that time, I am: OxenTrot. Ox was a call sign bestowed upon me while I was an active duty United States Marine, mainly in tribute to the fact that I was a major gym rat. After 5 years and three tours of duty, I reentered the civilian world.  My call sign was replaced by my actual name but the Ox still lived inside. As I began to adapt to my new life, I also began to take on new adventures, such as starting a family, getting a “big boy” job and taking on endurance sports.
